I am a Broadcast Journalism major therefore
when deciding which form news a prefer, Print or Broadcast, I, of course,
prefer broadcast.
Even though they are both used for the same
purpose. There are many differences between the two when actually writing for
them. Some of the main differences between the two is Print News is for the eye
while Broadcast News is for the ear. Also print can be reread while broadcast
only has one shot to the get the information out. Although there are few there
are however some similarities between the two. Appealing to the mass is one of
them. When writing for both you have to make sure your words and the way you
phrase stuff is appealing to everyone, whether it's a congressman, a teacher,
or a cashier at Walmart. Another similarity is the element of timeliness. Both
forms of news are very much based on time!
When writing both they differ in tone. in print
news there is a formal tone and in broadcast there is a conversational tone.
Because of this there are many pros and cons to both. I like writing for
Broadcast more because of the conversational tone however it is difficult
writing for it because sentences have to be short and to the point. Because of
the fact that Broadcast news is broadcasted there is the whole issue with time
and how long you have to speak about a certain topic whether it's 45 seconds or
4 minutes.
Here are two of the same story: one is a video
of the story and the other is a print version of the story. See which you
prefer!
